Twin brother of Arthur above, sons of Henry Bagshaw Grayson, b Hathersage 1853. 1911C in Bolton. Both sons b 1894 Duckinfield, 1911C in Bolton.

GRAYSON, Lewis

✟ ≠ Driver L/ 34594 A Battery, 70 brigade RFA. D of W14/8/1917. Gravestone in Potijze Chateau Lawn Cemetery, Ypres, engraved; ‘BELIEVED TO BE BURIED IN THIS CEMETERY’. Also remembered at Hurst War Memorial, Hurst Cemetery, Ashton under Lyne. b1883 Duckinfield. 1911C living at Ashton under Lyne, a coal carter. His father was Walter Grayson, b 1856 Hathersage, living 1861C at Brookfield, Hathersage, and 1871C at Sheffield Road, Hathersage.

GRAY, Louisa

née Peace. b 1875 Loxley, Sheffield. 1911C ‘Somerleigh’ Castleton Road, Outseats.  Red Cross record; Castleton Road, a cook at Hathersage VAD Hospital.

GRAHAM, Peter

ă Had already served as part of R.A.M.C. no 16699, probably prior to outbreak of the war. Pte 27 Bn D L I. joined in 1918, classed as B1. but at this time men not normally classed fit for front line duty were being enlisted. His war record is badly faded.  b 1883 West Witton, N Yorks. 1911C living in Eccles, Lancs, a commercial traveller. Living at “St Bedes”, Crossland Road, Hathersage, at time of enlistment and on absent voters list. Wife; Lilly.

GRAHAM, Jack William

Cpl 84958 RFA.  Wounded, GSW to knee.He served from 1914-1918 as a driver in the 50th-53rd battalion attached to the 9th Scottish Division and was involved in numerous campaigns including the Somme twice, and was also wounded a second time. On returning from France he was well known in the Hathersage village as a railway station porter. He died in 1974 and is buried in the churchyard. b1894 Totley. 1901C nephew (now an orphan as his father William Graham was dead) living with Isaac Watson at Hope.   Married 2/12/1918 to Leah Littlewood, b 1895 Hathersage. He lived in Hathersage as his medals were sent to him at Main Road, Hathersage. His son Walter contributed towards the Bell Ringing structure in the Church.

GRATTON, Sam

17917 Pte 2 Leicestershire Regt.  Served in France, India, Mesopotamia, and Palestine. b 1894 and lived in Hathersage until 1900. His father was an Inspector for the railway. Sam’s brother Harry tried to enlist in 1914 with Northamptonshire Regt. but was unfit. 1911C, Sam living in Peterborough, died Melton Mowbray 19/8/1949 (Melton Mowbray Times 26/8/1949 p1)
