ANDREW, Oscar
Pte 21664 16 Cheshire Regt, enlisted 17/12/1914. Transferred to 18 Bn Base Depot, discharged 1/12/1917, which suggests he had been seriously wounded. b1894 Rawtenstall, Lancs. A railway plate layer. (DT 18/8/1944; Oscar Andrews of The Dale, Hathersage, who has a grown-up family and served in the last war, killed in Totley Tunnel.) His widow Gladys, remarries Harry Schofield (b 1882 Hathersage), in 1945. He was also a plate layer on the railway living at 2 The Dale, Hathersage. Harry dies 3/11/1965, his probate awarded to spinster Alice Florence Andrew, she was probably Andrew Oscar’s daughter?

STANDRIN (STANDIN), John Willie
Pte 202508 2/4 York & Lancs. b 1893 Sheffield, 1911C a saw hardener in Sheffield. His father, John Robert Standrin b 1865 in Hathersage and 1871C living at Bean Row, Hathersage. Brother to Fred and Mary Standrin b 1874 Hathersage, mother of Alfred Westwood and George Frederick Westwood below. They are on the 1881C as ‘Standring’.
BOWER, William
Sgt 19571 1st Bn Grenadier Guards, enlisted 28/9/1914, wounded three times, once accidently. Transferred to be commissioned 18/7/1918 (no details found). b1887 Golcar, W Yorks. 1911C a policeman in Dewsbury. His wife Gladys Rowbottom b 1884 Hathersage, died during WW1 on 24/6/1916. She was the sister of John William Rowbottom below.
PERKINS, Walter
Spr 297822 R E. Later seems to have been downgraded due to health to Spr 27149 Road Construction Coy R E. b1882 Crofton near Wakefield. 1911 C in Neath, Wales, a railway contractor. Family lived in Hathersage at least from 1890/1895 as three other brothers were born there during this time. Walter the eldest brother, son of John and Martha Perkins, brother of Edwin, Lionel, Percy, Sidney and Charles Perkins. Their father was a railway contractor, and presumably was employed on the new line being built through the Hope Valley around this time.

Their father was Contracts Manager for the Railway. Family living in Hathersage at least 1890-1895.
