Lt RASC  b 1898 Alford Lincs. 1911C at school. Father was Marmaduke Riggall, b 1851 Wawne, Yorks 1911C Loughborough . Wesleyan Minister for Hathersage – (Belper News 2/7/1909; leaves Hathersage after four years, and died 1927 Alford, Lincs. Brother of Paul Rigauld Riggall and half-brother of Robert Marmaduke Riggall. His mother was Harriett Edgoose, who had previously been married to John Cocker while a servant at Belle Vue, Jaggers Lane, Hathersage, but John and his father died in 1987 within a few months of each other, leaving everything to her. Harriett b1858 Swinshead, Lincs., and died 1916 at Alford, Lincs.

RICHARDSON, William

ă 172 Coy R E. It has not been possible to trace his records, but 172 Coy R E was a tunnelling company. 1918 Absent voters address, The Hill, Outseats. (Possibly worked on the digging of the water conduits from the new Derwent Valley dams?)

RICHARDSON, Bernard

✟ ≠ Cpl 2/4 Hallamshire Y & L.  KIA 20/7/1918, buried in Bouilly Crossroads Military Cemetery, remembered on Sheffield City Council Roll of Honour. Pictured in Sheffield Evening Telegraph 19/9/1918 when reported missing, appealing for information by his mother of 185 Pitsmoor Road, Sheffield. b 1898 Sheffield, 1911C living in Sheffield. His father; John Richardson b 1848 Hathersage.

REYNOLDS, Frederick. M.M.

ă 32382  Staff Sgt R A M C. enlisted soon after the outbreak of war. (HPN 18/11/1916,’Awarded the Military Medal for devotion to duty while in action’). (SDT 31/11/1916, of Woodland View, Hathersage is in Newcastle Hospital suffering from ‘trench-feet’). (HPN 16/12/1916; ‘has been in Hathersage this week on a short stay. For eight days after a great battle, he was out in the rain, and not able to dry his clothes, with the result that he was invalided into hospital in Newcastle, for several weeks’).  b 1884 Sheffield. 1911C in Sheffield, a cutlery manager. Eldest son of Mr Andrew Reynolds of 5 Wharncliffe Road, Broomhall, Sheffield. 1918 absent voters address, Crossland (Road), Hathersage. Frederick had a wife (Mabel Arline) and two sons living at Crossland Road.

REVILL, Thomas George

Joined up in Australia 6/10/1917 (aged 44 per his enrolment form). Spr 20645 Light Motor Set Wireless Troop. Sent to France 19/12/1917. b 1870 Holmesfield. He owned the Cycle shop on Main Road, Hathersage opposite the Chemists shop, (see picture page 40 ‘Hathersage Images of the Past’).  (Herts Reporter 28/2/1908; his baby was tragically drowned and his wife committed to an asylum.) He emigrated to Australia in 1912.

REECE, Robert Harold

ă Mechanic, Motor Ambulance Unit;  British Red Cross Society, had a rank of Sgt. Drove an Ambulance in Boulogne before joining Hathersage VAD Hospital in 1915. b 1885 Ramsgate. 1901C on the domestic staff at Hereford Cathedral. 1911C a guest, New Inn, Eardisley, Hereford, an engine fitter, chauffeur. 1918 Absent Voters address; Bon Accord, Castleton Road, Outseats.
