ă b 1873 Bakewell. 1919 Absent Voters list address; Yarncliffe, Longshaw, Fox House. Wife, Lucy. A gamekeeper for the Duke of Rutland, a bit old to serve, he was possibly in Militia. No other military records found.

Pte 267453 N & D.  b 1898 Holmesfield. 1911C at Holmesfield. His father Henry Helliwell b 1867 Hathersage. 1871/1881 the Helliwell’s farmed Cow Close Farm. Quite a number of them emigrated to New Zealand.

(DC 19/1/1918. Hathersage, War Agricultural certified. 4 Months exemption granted).

b 1896 Sheffield. 1911C at Thornhill working on father William Helliwell’s farm. Father William was born in Hathersage.

Pte 6774 16 Bn Australian Imperial Force. Shipped back to Australia 12/3/1918 on medical grounds. Served in N & D T.A. prior to emigration in 1912. b 1888 Bakewell, brother of Edward, George Thomas and Herbert, their mother was Elizabeth Ann Hickinson, b1862 Hathersage and 1871C living at The Dale, Hathersage. Their father was George Thomas Hayto, b c1853 Derby, but was dead before the 1911C.

Underground Labourer Quarry Pte 37794 Leicestershire Regt. b 1890 Bakewell. 1911C at Over Haddon, brother of Edward, George Thomas and Percy Bosworth, their mother was Elizabeth Ann Hickinson, b1862 Hathersage and 1871C living at The Dale, Hathersage. Their father was George Thomas Hayto, b c1853 Derby, but was dead before the 1911C.

L/Cpl R.F.A. No other military record found, (other than DC 24/8/1918; ‘after a brief leave at Hathersage, he returned on Friday’).   b 1876 Lockington, Leicestershire (though the family lived in Castle Donnington) 1911C living at Mayfield Apartments, Hathersage, a bank clerk.

✟ Щ 71056 Pte Royal Fusiliers, posted to 2/2 Bn London Regt., and Trooper 13 Royal Hussars.  Arrived in France 2/10/1917, shot in the throat and died from his injuries on 26/10/1917 age 22. Memorial Tyne-Cot, Passchendale, Belgium. Panels 28-30.

He also appears on Hope Memorial.  b 1895 Eyam Woodlands. 1901C at Fall Cliffe Cottage, (Grindleford Road) with his father’s sister-in-law; Janet M Outram (16) b Froggatt Edge. 1911C Living at Mount Pleasant Farm, Highlow with parents James & Fanny (and sister Fanny b 1894 Eyam Woodlands) who became Mrs Roche of 5 Back Lane, Hathersage.

ă  37743, Pte 25 Northumberland Fusiliers. Transferred to a Labour Corp after being gassed. b 1897 Onibury, Shropshire. A labourer and adopted son of Agnes Bowen. 1918 Absent Voters address given as 12 The Hill, Outseats.
