ß ă Щ 81039 Pte 11 Notts & Derbys, later Worcestershire Regt. b1892 Grimsby, son of Reuben and Fannie Farrow Ranshaw. 1901C living in Sheffield, 1911C the family is living at 8 Crossland Rd, Hathersage, later 6 Mayfield Terrace, Hathersage, a carter. 1918 Absent Voters address; The Dale, Hathersage with his brother Reginald Scott Ranshaw, see below.

PROCTOR, John Thomas

✟ ≠ 7531 Pte 25 Bn Lancashire Fusiliers. D of W 16/8/1916.  (SDT 25/8/1916; he leaves a wife and three children, who reside at Bank Bottom, Hathersage). Grave; La Neuville British Cemetery, Corbie, Somme, France.  b 1885 Londridge Lancs. 1911C living at 2 Mayfield Terrace, Hathersage, a labourer for the water works. He married Constance Wilson.

PROCTOR, Bertram

Enlisted 1916. Pte 24057 Y & L. 23/4/1916 received shrapnel wound to hand and arm. 20/10/1916, GSW right arm.  In hospital 13/7/1917 – 13/3/1918 GSW both thighs. b 1895 Hathersage (on Military record), but on 1911C; Bertram Proctor b Sheffield, a slater, living at 52 Denby Street, Sheffield. Father William Proctor. Not able to find the family on the 1901C.

PRINCE, Herbert

ß ⚜ Щ Д  (DC 28/1/1922 listed among Methodist Church Members who had served),  Also on the Scouts Memorial Board as Notts & Derbys. (DC 28/6 /1922, listed as served but no details). b 1900,  2 Station Road, Hathersage. Brother of Albert Prince. 1911C living in Hathersage with Albert & two sisters. Member of Hathersage British Legion committee in 1943.  25/5/2015 some info from granddaughter of William Hickinson  and great niece of John Cotterill Hickinson;- “Dad mentioned the Prince family as being relatives, Herbert was married to a Hickinson – apparently he visited them regularly in Barnfield Cottages (no 7) and grandad would cut his hair for him”.

PRIESTLEY, Luther

✟ Щ Enlisted at Derby, 201848 Pte 12 Bn Royal Scots Fusiliers (Ayr & Lanark Yeomanry). K.I.A.  19/7/1918 age 20.  Commemorated at Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium and on Grindleford War Memorial.

b 1898 and baptised 10/7/1898 at Hathersage.  Lived at White Edge Lodge, Longshaw, & Stoney Ridge Farm, Longshaw.  Son of Septimus and Emily Jane Priestley (née Buttery) of White Edge Lodge. A relative was Mrs A Haslam, Barbridge Farm, Fox House. 1901C living at Strawberry Lee, Totley, with his mother and siblings; John (twin) and Harold, age 1. All b Hathersage except Harold b (Totley?) Dore. 1911C all living at White Edge Lodge plus Archie (8) b Dore & Dorothy Evelyn (5) b Hathersage. He was cousin to James Luther Buttery and Percy Luther Buttery, and Lancelot William Hancock above, and to Percy and Sydney Skerritt below.

PRIESTLEY, John (Henry?)

ß ă Щ Originally joined Notts & Derbys in 1915 but failed on medical grounds. Placed on the reserve list and later remobilized and joined the 433 Coy  A S C, then 60348  411 Agri Coy. Transferred 13/10/1918 275182 Dr to 501 Agri Coy. b 1892 Hathersage 1911C living at Mitchell Field, a farm hand .
