TAYLOR, Arthur Stanley
Pte 46077 12th Y & L. Acting Corp RE 16977. Commemorated on the St Peter’s Church Roll of Honour, Abbeydale Road, Sheffield (demolished in 2003). b 1887 Sheffield. 1911C living at 23 Gatefield Road, Sheffield, an Analytical Chemist. Brother of Lance Neville below, their mother was Rosanna Grayson b 1862 Hathersage, 1871C living at Sheffield Road, Hathersage. Lived at Meadow Bank Avenue, Sheffield. A nurse at Longshaw Red Cross hospital, but otherwise nothing definitive discovered about her.

SWINDELLS, John Francis
Pte 200690 B Coy. Prince of Wales Volunteer Regt, South Lancs. Enlisted 1/9/1914, wounded 21/12/1916 “When a shell hit the communication trench he was in, completely shattering his arm“ which was amputated. b 1882 (possibly in Hope, only appears on 1891C. His father was Joseph Swindells b 1857 Hathersage. 1861C at Barn i’th Wood, Note Car Lane, (near Harpur Lees) later census refer to it as ‘The Barn in the Wood’ farm.

b Jan 1894 Highlow, son of Alfred, (b 1867 Grindleford/ Eyam Woodlands) a bootmaker, and Ann Eliza Bagshawe, (b 1870 Hathersage). Brother of Thomas Alfred. 1911C living at Northfield, Worcs. He married Ada Elizabeth Gibbs in 1919 and died in 1963 at Birmingham. Brother of Thomas Albert.

It would seem he lied about his age being 20 when enlisting! b 1895 Highlow, son of Alfred, (b 1867 Grindleford/ Eyam Woodlands) a bootmaker and Ann Eliza Bagshawe, (b 1870 Hathersage). Brother of Westby. 1901C, living at Northfield, Worcs. He married Edith May Potter in 1913 and died Mar 1958 age 62.
