Sgt Motor Mechanic RFC/RAF 24575. b 1886 York. 1911C a motor mechanic in Sheffield. His son Richard was b Hathersage in 1911. The family emigrated to Australia in the 1920’s.

Pte 315910 35 Bn Northumberland Fusiliers –enlisted 11/12/1915, mobilised 3/4/1916 but discharged early on 8/3/1917 on medical grounds. He never went overseas. b1896 Sheffield, 1911C in Sheffield an electrical fitter. Brother of Arthur Edward, George Ambrose and John A above. Their father was John Abram Slinn b 1865 Hathersage and 1871C living on Oddfellows Row, Hathersage, and their mother Sarah Ann Melland, elder sister of Hannah Maria the wife of Gilbert James McIlwrick above.

Buried; Martinsart British Cemetery, Somme, France.  (SDT 13/11/1916; formerly of Hathersage, and worked for J Stead & Co., at Victoria Works, now of Olive Grove Road, Sheffield. He had been previously wounded. The statement here that he had  ‘four brothers serving with the colours’ we think is incorrect. He married Rose Annie of 58 Harvey Clough Road, Norton Woodseats, Sheffield.

Able Seaman J 11903. joined the Navy in 1912 and served till 1919. b 1894, brother of John A, Arthur Edward, and William Alban. ß Щ It has not proved possible to discover his military record.  b 1889 Hathersage. 1911C at 9 Roslyn Road, Hathersage, a tobacco machine maker. Possibly worked in Munitions during the conflict?

M2/113162 Pte R A S C. MT. b 1893 Leicester, son of William Ansty Sleath.  Married Esther Eliza Blagden (b 1895 Hathersage) in May 1917 at Hathersage.  Samuel & Teresa Blagden were witnesses at the wedding. Father of Frederick (b Hathersage Jan 1917). His wife’s father Thomas was a gardener and she had five brothers, Thomas, George, Arthur, John William, and Samuel. They and their mother Mary were all born in Hathersage and lived on Oddfellows Row (1901C).
