Joined up in Australia 6/10/1917 (aged 44 per his enrolment form). Spr 20645 Light Motor Set Wireless Troop. Sent to France 19/12/1917. b 1870 Holmesfield. He owned the Cycle shop on Main Road, Hathersage opposite the Chemists shop, (see picture page 40 ‘Hathersage Images of the Past’). (Herts Reporter 28/2/1908; his baby was tragically drowned and his wife committed to an asylum.) He emigrated to Australia in 1912.
