HUNT, Henry
✟ ≠ ⚜ J 60695 O/S RN killed 1/3/1917 aged 19. He was an Ordinary Seaman aboard “H M S Pheasant “, which struck a mine off Orkney. Remembered on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial ref 25. b 1898 Horsforth, Leeds. Son of Charles M and Ann Hunt of 20 Wheat Street, Ingrow, Keighley. The family came from Horsforth but 1911C lived at 2 Crossland Road, Hathersage. He was a member of Hathersage Scouts.

M2/168010 Pte R A S C., M.T. (Motor Transport). b 1887 Sheffield. 1901C family living at The Ordnance Arms, Hathersage where father Alfred was Landlord. Brother of Oliver.

7221 Pte 2 Bn Yorkshire Regiment, suffered from malaria (and a ‘social disease’!). Discharged 1916 and dead by 1919. b1885 Sheffield. 1901C family living at The Ordnance Arms, Hathersage where father Alfred was Landlord. Brother of Frank Leonard.

129436 R.F.C./R.A.F. Aircraft Mechanic 3rd Class. b1890 Sheffield, 1911C living in Sheffield, father Tom Merrill Hughes, lived at Holmedene, Hathersage (1925 Kelly’s).
HUGHES, Alfred Taylor
17193 Sgt East Yorkshire Regt. Although DC 15/2/16 – refers to ‘Sgt A Hughes, late of Hathersage, killed’ Alfred Taylor Hughes died at home of diabetes circa 1950, according to his great granddaughter and there is no reference to a Sgt A Hughes being listed on the War Graves between the periods 1/11/15 to 28/2/16. b 1878 Belper. 1911C, lived at 11 Crossland Road. Hathersage, time keeper at the Water Board.

HUDSON, John
(DC 10/3/1917; 3 months exemption granted but he had to give help to other farmers 3 days a week’). Played cricket for Hathersage.
