It is also suggested elsewhere that he had Malaria (HPN 16/12/1916; ‘invalided from Egypt/Salonica region and is still in hospital’, although it doesn’t specify which Pte Middleton this is!) (DC 3/11/1917; ‘Driver C Middleton Ill in Hospital’).  b 1889  Hathersage, and brother of Arthur, Ernest and John Robert, also of two other brothers; William Henry (dead), and Henry, who was probably too old for call-up, 1901C & 1911C living Main Road, Hathersage. Charles was a postman, youngest son of William Henry Middleton a plumber, b1842 Hathersage, & Jane Ellen Titterton b1846 Lancaster. She was already a widow by 1869 and her maiden name was Middleton, but not necessarily related. . She gave birth to 14 children in total. Father William Henry was the brother of Mary Middleton, Hubert Jennison’s Grandmother.
