(SDT 24/7/1916; The members 81st Section, 5th Battalion, West Derbyshire Volunteers, accompanied by the Hathersage Brass Band, attended service at Bamford Parish Church yesterday morning, in command of Detachment; Commandant Mr A D King. Died age 39, from influenza. (DC 23/11/1918 ‘given a Military funeral at Hathersage), when he lived at ‘Birchtrees’ (Jaggers Lane), Outseats. (DC 30/11/1918; ‘at the funeral of Lt Arthur Dobney King, were Sgt Taylor, Cpl Platts, L/Cpl Taylor, L/Cpl Mawhood, Privates Wood, Dalton, Spittlehouse and Mower). It is thought these could be the men in the picture in p 13 of ‘WHW2W.
b 1879 at Southampton, He married Jessie Mabel Roberts sister to Nima wife of Charles Anthes. 1876/1881 the Roberts family were living Moorseats, Hathersage. 1911C, living at ’Ashdene’ (Ninelands Road). He worked at Barclays Bank, Sheffield. Most of the information came from the family.
