Had already been a serving soldier before WW1 in India & South Africa with York & Lancs, then Staff Sgt A/1538 R.A.O.C . Served in the Dardanelles. b 1875 Sheffield, lived in Blackburn. 1911C a motor engineer in Bolton and later as a tool fitter at the Royal Small Arms (RSA) factory at Sparbrook, Birmingham. His mother was Sarah Sellers (Sellars) b1854 Hathersage, whose family was living next to the Dog Kennel public house, Sheffield Road, Hathersage in the 1861 Census. His brother David was also a serving soldier in RE who died in India 1904.
