b1891, Hampstead, eldest son of Sebastian Ziani De Ferranti, founder of Ferranti Electric, and Gertrude Ruth (Ince) His father took up residence in 1905 at the Commercial Hotel, Grindleford then all the family went to live at ‘Ingleside’, Nether Padley before moving in 1913 to Baslow Hall.
