† Pte 7940  2 Bn KOLI. Sent to France 10/8/1914 KIA Oct/Nov 1914. Remembered at Le Touret Memorial. B1884 Carbrook, Sheffield, a Blacksmith., married Louisa Ellen Potter b1885, lived at Ranmoor Hill, Hathersage, with their son.

Pioneer 383815 RE Inland Waterways and Transportation. Called up 28/8/1917 despite suffering from Renaud’s Disease. Served about one year.  b1883 Leamington Spa, Gloucestershire., a Gamekeeper living at Brookfield Cottages. Hathersage.

Pte 185710 RFA, and 525634 Labour Corps. b1897 Eyam Woodlands, Grindleford but lived and worked at Fulwood. Son of Arthur Cooper b1858 at Padley Mill, then in Hathersage.

Sgt Maj 234410 Royal Signals. b1915 at 3 Surprise Villas, Hathersage. Also lived at East Retford. His father Thomas, was employed by the railway, so moved about somewhat.

Enlisted 4/9/1914 Cheshire Rgt. L/Cpl 16885. B1891 Tintwhisle, Cheshire, lived at Glossop. Son of John Philip Chevens, b1868 The Hill, Outseats, Hathersage. A Carter and Publican at Glossop, Uncle to John  Joseph and Louis Chevens.

Dvr 72570 R.G.A. b1883, his mother Anne Wilson b1855, was from a Hathersage family of stonemasons.

Driver of Red Cross Ambulance. b1884 Pink Moor, Qwennap, Cornwall. Had a daughter Bettina, b1918 Hathersage, and a son Cyril Douglas, b 1921 Isle of Mann. (see WW2 personnel).

Sgt 12/50 12Bn Y & L (Sheffield Pals). Later 9^th Y & L. b1884 Milford, Derbyshire. A school teacher in Sheffield. Lived at Hazelford, Hathersage. According to his grand-daughter, he was half German.

Gnr 65411 RGA.. Hospitalized with influenza in Dec 1916 and never really recovered. b1883 Long Itchington, Warwicks, later lived at Bradwell and married Ann Pearson b1892, Hathersage.
