KNIGHTON, Tomas Lindsay

(DC 31/8/1918; ‘A Roll of Honour of old scholars of the Hathersage Church of England School, who have joined the forces, has been designed by Master T Knighton, a former scholar. The roll consists of 80 names’).

(DC 22/2/1919; reported the ‘Death of 17 year old of Crossland Villas, Hathersage, eldest son of Mr & Mrs Thomas Knighton. He contracted influenza, which became pneumonia). He was probably a victim of the ‘flu pandemic. He was employed in the drawing office of Firths, Sheffield, a member of the Hathersage Volunteers, he may well be depicted front left rank of the photo, p 13 of WHW2W.  He was also a member of Hathersage Wesley Guild, and a former patrol leader of Hathersage Boy Scouts. b 1901 at Eastwood, Notts. 1911C living at Hunter House Road, Sheffield. Buried 21/2/1919 at Eastwood, Notts.

Although too young to serve in WW1, it is thought his story deserves recording. It is not known if the roll of honour has survived.
