KERR, James Gold. † Pte M2/104884 RASC MT attached 5 Field Survey Coy RE. Arrived in France 14/8/1915. Died following an accident 3/10/1918 at 48 Casualty Clearing Station, Brie. Buried at Brie British Cemetery, Somme, (ref; IV.E.11) gravestone engraved; ’THE LORD GAVE THE LORD HATH TAKEN AWAY BLESSED BE HIS NAME’. b1896 Monreith, Wigtownshire, (now Dumfries & Galloway), Scotland. His father, John Kirk Kerr a gamekeeper, lived during most of the war at Yarncliffe Lodge Padley, on the Longshaw estate, before moving to Ringwood Hall farm, Brimington, Chesterfield. James’ brother Robert Kerr also served.
