NEEDHAM, Herbert

† ≠   Signed on with the DLI in Sheffield, No. 22066 and then was 43288 with the 10 Bn Prince of Wales Own (West Yorkshire). He was killed whilst attached to the 50th Trench Mortar Battery on 8/2/1917 and is buried at Combles Communal Cemetery Extension, France.

b 1891 Swinton near Rotherham. 1911C at Sheffield, a Coal Miner. He was the adopted son in 1901C, but shown as nephew in 1911C, of Eunice Needham (née Standrin/Standing, b 1863 Hathersage and 1871 C living Bean Row, Hathersage, sister of Mary Standrin) and Aaron Needham, therefore cousin of the Westwoods. It is thought Eunice and Aaron who married 5/9/1881 at St Paul’s Sheffield had no children of their own. Herbert married Ethel Ford, who remarried to Albert Westwood after her husband’s death.
